Scary Tea Party

The companions of Tomorrow gathered
to warn her of chaotic calamity
offering their opinions like cake.

‘There is not enough and will not be
food to keep alive all that we know,’
cautioned the berryless Mistletoe.

‘Long ago this began, this catastrophe,’
admonished the voracious Volcano
filling a lake with his black gold.

The King of the Gazelles spoke up
from his overlooking outcropping
‘If you watch, you will see danger.’

Babble arose with tendency to agree.
Friends and strangers from centuries past
testified to an impending disaster.

Tomorrow served them all tea and coffee
said ‘thank you’ and then washed the dishes
‘I wish,’ she whispered, ‘It were that simple.’
