Chicken Soup and Rye Whiskey

Coming home from many years of
being at war with myself
shell-shocked half-way cured of waking up in tears
still suspicious not yet peaceful
not yet square with the world not yet square.

[chorus]
Down from the stars bath full of beer
silence and darkness so thick you will
stay here with eyes closed
sincerely.

[refrain]
Chicken soup and rye whiskey
living richly and simply
bare prairies and plateaus
filled with travels and stories.

[verse]
Off the road where from is to
unload what I’ve picked up
dusty souvenirs of what I have gone through
leaving out the not yet tracked down
stay here give up any bird’s eye view stay.

Down from the stars bath full of beer
silence and darkness so thick you will
stay here with eyes closed
sincerely.

Chicken soup and rye whiskey
living richly and simply
bare prairies and plateaus
filled with travels and stories.
