Amorous Not Glamorous

Instead of buying a new car and a truck
we could rely on our sense of direction
to get by on lucky stars
bottled pears and early morning
love-struck tick-tock and
wishing on a candy bar.

The amorous life is not glamorous
it is gourmet but negotiated
we can both roam and stay at home
we are post-modern and antiquated.

We make the most of our voluntary poverty
we’re kings and queens without any gravity
we live on tea and toast
if need be one of us will
turn the clock forward or back
to when we had more.

The amorous life is not glamorous
it is gourmet but negotiated
we can both roam and stay at home
we are post-modern and antiquated.
