Before the War

Here is a poem/song, meant to be in the Sevdah style.

=================

We used to find joyously
unexpected money in our pockets
and spend it together on croissants.
That was before the war.

The river would fascinate
under the bridge of weekend walkers
on the welcoming way to somewhere.
That was before the war.

Half and half that’s the recipe.
We write the words and step the steps
for the winter and summer solstices.

Colors were natural
jackets and scarves of springtime
morning and evening brushstrokes of birds but
that was before the war.

Who was it that told us
back when men and women were wise
that we cannot always get what we want?
That was before the war.

Half and half that’s the recipe.
We write the words and step the steps
for the winter and summer solstices.
